Green Councillors have condemned Lambeth Council’s silence over their “reckless” estate demolition plans after they have failed to provide answers to key questions.
Lambeth Green Party Councillors submitted a series of questions to the Council on 4th March 2019 regarding Homes for Lambeth, the Council owned company charged with carrying out the demolition of six estates in the borough. These were followed by a further set of questions on 23rd April concerning a Council decision to borrow an additional £10m to buy back homes on the regeneration estates. As of 3rd May no answers have been provided to these questions.
Councillor Pete Elliott (Gipsy Hill) said:
“The questions that we have asked are not complex, so we worry that the lack of response confirms the fears of residents and the Green Party that there are huge holes in the business plan and the financial planning of Homes for Lambeth. The council should go back to the drawing board, learn lessons from the errors of the past years and genuinely cooperate with residents and communities to find solutions to the massive problems that the Labour party in Lambeth has created on the ‘regeneration’ estates.”
