Candidate for St Martin's
Shâo-Lan Yuen has lived in St Martins Ward for 10 years.
Shâo has worked as a teacher, university lecturer, local government officer and vegan wedding and funeral celebrant. She conducted the first social sciences study on education, gender and international development in the Galàpagos Islands.
Growing up on a housing estate and getting an assisted place at a private school gave her first hand experience of the possibilities and social inequalities that exist in the UK.
For her early adult life she was very naïve about politics but in more recent years with not only climate and social justice crises but also seeing major fractures and failures in existing systems, she has realised that this is no reason not to be involved. It’s more of a reason to seek to be part of the solution.
