Local residents, businesses and councillors in Streatham are uniting in dismay at Lambeth Council’s continued neglect of our neighbourhoods. Our streets and pavements are dirty. Fly tipping is rampant. Rubbish ends up spread over our pavements when bin collections are missed – which is very frequent since the change to two weekly black bin collections. Weeds are not being cleared regularly as part of the street cleaning process.
Our High Street is dirtier than ever, putting off visitors and shoppers from frequenting local businesses, causing knock-on acts of anti-social behaviour and environmental degradation.
We are paying higher levels of Council tax this year – yet local services are failing. People are quite rightly asking why Lambeth is not getting the basics right – keeping our streets clean, when charges paid to the council have risen.
Street cleaning and waste collection services are provided by SERCO – we urge the Council to hold them to account and ensure that our local area receives the services that we all pay for and deserve.
